A red shirt for Valentines Day? Groundbreaking…
Sometimes, the simplest projects can be the most fulfilling. I’ve done a Valentines shirt in the past, but this time I wanted one that I would wear on other times not just on V-Day. And when I think comfy shirts, my mind immediately goes too a classic henley baseball tee. They’re just so comfortable and one of my ALL TIME favorite pattern designers Mimi G (And her hubby Norris Dante Ford) have a great pattern out there and it’s simplicity #8613.
I chose the PDF version which did mean I had to tape it together, but it did mean it was printed on thicker paper so I’m less inclined to damage it through multiple uses (more on that later). I began by tracing out all my pieces in the right size and lightly pressing them with my iron.
I found the perfect color combo at Joanns in their knit section, a beautiful wine colored solid and a white/red/pink floral knit.
Then I laid out my pattern pieces and cut it out!
Here’s the great thing….. I put this whole shirt together WITH MY BABYLOCK VICTORY SERGER…. this bears repeating. WITH MY SERGER. The only times I used my regular machine are when I needed the twin needle for the hem on the bottom and on the sleeves. All in all this took me about 2.5 hours to make! Not bad for one shirt, which is why in gonna keep this one and make all the things with it!
Now here are my final takeaways with this pattern. the neckline was a bit too wide for me, so I’m gonna add about 1 inch to the top of the neckline and see what that does. Some of this could be the fabric and it stretching as I made it, but I can always cut it down if it’s too small.
And if you follow me on instagram, you’ll know the EPIC debacle that is my tweed outfit….. but that’s coming I promise. TaTa for now, till next time!
