WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M NOT DONE YET.....
Hey there friend.... I know I know.... but its all worth it in the end ok?
Now lets talk binding. There are a lot of ways to do your corset binding much like corset construction as a whole. I use a double fold bias tape from Bezos Boutique (Its just Amazon). I open up one side and use the first fold line as a guide to stitch down. I then fold over and stich JUST outside of the seam, but catching the underside of the binding... MAGIC.
Here we go, boning channels....
I cut strips of the corset coutil 2 inches wide and marked a line halfway between the edges. Then folded and pressed the edges to this line, making a 1 inch wide boning channel. These were then laid over top of the seams matching the center of the seam with the center of the boning channel. Once pinned in place, I started by stitching SUPER CLOSE to the edge of the channel, then flipping the piece over and stitching in the middle of the seam (called stitching in the ditch, don't ask me why I just work here). Repeat this over and over for all the seams and the channels are on!!! (If only it was as fast as me typing this)…
Then I inserted all the bones and did one last try on before the top binding and trim went on.
Satisfied with the fit, I tipped the top of the bones and did the top binding (In my excitement, I did not photograph this). Then I stitched down the trim that my client picked out and THEN IT WAS DONE!!!! Look at how it all turned out! I'm so excited, and now I get to do this TWO. MORE. TIMES. Yay? Stay tuned for more sewing adventures where I make a beautiful black and gold victorian dress to go over this corset! I love you friends, stay awesome!
And that’s all she wrote friends!!! Stay tuned for next installment when I cover this with a beautiful black and gold Victorian dress!!!
